Description
The first national philatelic exhibition was held in Belgrade from May 25 to 30, 1951, organized by the Union of Philatelists of Serbia, in the building of the Home for War Invalids on Savska Street.
Continuing the pre-war tradition, the exhibition marked the renewal of philatelic life after the interruption during World War II and represented the first major post-war philately review in Serbia.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the PTT administration, the People’s Front and the diplomatic corps, as well as numerous guests. The exhibition featured 130 display cases, and due to the great interest of visitors, the duration of the exhibition was extended by three days. The exhibited material included pre-war and contemporary philately with a pronounced thematic character.
This historical event founded modern Serbian philately, and five decades later this exhibition, organized by the Union of Philatelists of Serbia, grew into a national philatelic exhibition – SRBIJAFILA.
