World Postcard Day – Postcrossing
Postcrossing is a global postcard exchange project that connects people through real mail. It allows anyone to send a postcard to a random member somewhere in the world and, in return, receive a postcard back from another random member. What begins with a simple postcard often becomes a meaningful connection between people, cultures, and places.
Over the years, Postcrossing has grown into a worldwide community spanning more than 200 countries and territories. More than 85 million postcards have travelled across the globe through the project, carrying messages, stamps, handwriting, and small glimpses of everyday life. In a fast digital world, Postcrossing celebrates the lasting charm of handwritten communication and the joy of finding something personal in the mailbox.
Postcrossing also started World Postcard Day, celebrated each year on 1 October, the anniversary of the first postcard ever sent. The day honors postcards and the unique way they bring people together across distances. Events to celebrate this special day are organized all over the world, from simple gatherings of postcard enthusiasts to museum exhibitions and school activities.
This stamp issue celebrates both the spirit of postcard sending and the international community that continues to make it relevant today.
