Description
The celebration of the 85th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Canada confirms the long continuity and stability of relations between the two countries, but also their ability to develop and adapt to the modern international context. This anniversary is an opportunity to highlight the historical foundations of our ties, but also the areas in which cooperation is deepening today – political dialogue, economy, culture, science and education.
Contemporary relations between Serbia and Canada are marked by concrete institutional and practical steps, including the formation of parliamentary friendship groups in the parliaments of both countries, as well as the establishment of a direct Belgrade–Toronto air route in May 2026, the first in 34 years, which significantly contributes to connecting citizens and intensifying economic activities.
This anniversary year also carries a strong symbolic dimension through the celebration of the 170th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla, a figure who connects Serbia and North America in a recognizable and lasting way, as well as through preparations for the Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade, which opens up new opportunities for international cooperation and partnerships for Serbia.
