{"id":10577,"date":"2023-05-22T07:21:10","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T06:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/efilatelija.posta.rs\/?post_type=product&#038;p=10577"},"modified":"2026-03-26T14:46:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T13:46:38","slug":"550-godina-od-rodjenja-nikole-kopernika","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/efilatelija.posta.rs\/en\/product\/550-godina-od-rodjenja-nikole-kopernika\/","title":{"rendered":"550 years since the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nicolaus Copernicus (lat.\u00a0<em><i>Nicolaus<\/i><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em><i>Copernicus<\/i><\/em>Polish: Miko\u0142aj Kopernik; Toru\u0144, February 19, 1473 \u2013 Frombork, May 24, 1543), Polish astronomer and mathematician, was the first scientist to formulate the heliocentric model of space bodies, claiming that the Earth revolves around its axis, while at the same time orbiting the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>He received his academic education studying mathematics, medicine, astronomy, theology and canon law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the University of Bologna. He belonged to the Catholic order of Jesuits and served as a priest in the town of Frombork, where he arranged an observatory from which he observed the movements of the celestial bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the results he reached by observing the celestial bodies, Copernicus wrote his capital scientific work \u201dOn the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres\u201d (lat.\u00a0<em>De<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>revolutionibus<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>orbium<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>coelestium<\/em>) in six volumes, which was published in Nuremberg in 1543, just before the scientist\u203as death.
